How much does a wedding videographer cost in the UK?

Words by Union in Frame

How much a wedding videographer costs in the UK depends on what the quote is built from. Hours, the number of people filming, how sound is recorded, which edits are included and how soon they arrive all move the price. Knowing them lets you compare two quotes fairly.

Hours and camera operators set the base

Film quotes start with two numbers: how many hours the team is with you and how many people are filming. One operator can cover a ceremony and speeches, but cannot be in two rooms at once. Two can film both of you getting ready, add a second angle during the vows and stay with your guests.

Decide where the film should begin and end, then ask what happens if the day runs late. Extra time is often charged by the hour, so ask the rate in advance.

Sound is the part people underestimate

Vows and speeches are the parts you will replay most, and the hardest to record well. A camera microphone picks up the room rather than the voice, so filmmakers clip small lapel microphones to the people speaking or take a feed from the venue's sound system.

Ask whether this is included or an extra. Registrars and some officiants may set conditions on recording the legal parts of the ceremony, so ask them early. Good sound rarely shows on a quote, but it is much of what you pay for.

Drone, edits and music change the finished film

A drone adds a view from above, but it needs a qualified pilot, the venue's permission, permitted airspace and suitable weather. Treat it as an option and ask what happens to the price if it cannot fly.

Then check which edits are included. A short highlight film and a longer feature are different amounts of work, and a full ceremony or speeches edit may be separate again. Music licensing matters too. Studios pay for the tracks they use, so the film can be shared online without being taken down.

Turnaround and delivery are part of the price

Editing a wedding film takes far longer than filming it. Delivery is usually quoted in weeks or months, and a faster turnaround often costs more because your edit moves ahead of others. Same-day content, where short clips are edited and shared during the celebration, is usually a separate service with its own price.

Ask how the film is delivered, whether you can download it, how long any online link stays live and whether raw footage is available. Ask too how many rounds of changes are included.

Line up two quotes so they match

Two film quotes only compare fairly when they describe the same job. Send each studio the same date, venue, rough timings and number of locations, then ask for the same hours and number of operators. If one includes a drone or a speeches edit and the other does not, add or remove it until both match.

Put the answers side by side: hours, operators, audio, drone, edits, music licensing, turnaround, travel and any overnight stay. Whatever is left unmatched is where the real difference lies.
